Freud Router Bits are known for their exceptional quality, unmatched precision and maximum cutting life. The bits are carefully crafted using the best materials, the industry's most sophisticated manufacturing processes, and include exclusive Freud features such as TiCo Hi-Density Carbide and red Perma-SHIELD non-stick coating. Freud's bits also contain revolutionary, innovative designs such as Quadra-Cut and Double-Grind.

Freud's new Premier Solid Carbide bit series delivers 2x the cutting life and finish quality of current bits on the market. These bits combine a unique high performance open flute design, advanced precision grind technology and specific TiCo Hi-Density carbide to provide the most productive and cost effective solid carbide bits on the market today.

TiCo Hi-Density carbide is a specially formulated, highly compact Titanium Cobalt Carbide engineered and manufactured by Freud to maximize performance on all Freud cutting tools. Designed in Freud research and development laboratories, Freud's TiCo Hi-Density carbide is scientifically developed using Titanium Carbide, Cobalt and Tungsten (as well as proprietary elements), to produce a supreme product. Carbide size is extremely important when it comes to sharpness as well as the rate at which an edge wears. The larger the carbide grain, the faster an edge will wear. While standard carbides measure as large as 5 microns, and an advanced micrograin carbide can measure 1 micron, Freud's TiCo Hi-Density Carbide is miniscule in comparison at 0.8 microns, with a laminate blend as small as 0.4 microns.

    Not a Freud Bit
Reviewed in the United States on August 20, 2019
Style: 1/4-Inch Diameter 2-Flute Down Spiral Router Bit with 1/4-Inch Shank
This came in a clear plastic tube with no Freud logo anywhere. All the Freud bits I have came with typical Freud red/black hexagonal hard plastic package with Freud logo. This one looked like "wannabe" Freud bit. Should be zero star.

Made a circle jig for my plunge router and used one of these bits to cut two small table 22.5 inch tops out of 3/4 inch baltic birch. I cut them in three passes and had no problem... cut like butter. I bought an extra bit because I was afraid of snapping one of these pure carbide bits, but that didn''t turn out to be a problem for me. This is the first time I used a circle jig. I am very satisfied with the sharpness and quality of cut which was perfect. It seemed to clear the sawdust sufficiently and had almost no break out on the bottom of the boards. None whatsoever on the top which would fit with a down-cut bit. A few seconds with the sander and they are ready for the next step.

This bit is listed on Freud''s website as being designed for laminates, soft wood, hardwood, etc. I purchased to slot oak to 7/16" deep. I ran it in my router table at the correct speed and used a scrap of melamine/particle board to test. Bit was raised to cut about 1/4, so my 7/16 would be 2 passes. The darn bit broke within the first 4 inches of the very first cut. I am contacting Freud for a refund.

Most experienced woodworkers suggest an upcut spiral but for plunging mortises. However, for my particular need, I wanted to avoid the typical tear out that often occurs when using an up cut style bit. Sure they remove the sawdust better while the blade is cutting but they do have a tendency to cause tear out around the mortise opening if you''re using a plunge router for the job. I thought long and hard and decided that for my needs building a child''s wagon for my granddaughter, that the down spiral would be better. It worked like a charm. I only take one star off because it does cost 2-3 times more than a straight double flute bit. Otherwise it''s a solid additional to my router bit collection.

I am a professional electrician that does woodworking as a hobby and leisure activity. I own and use many Freud bits and have never had a problem with any of them. Highest quality for the money. I also own and use many other cheap bits since you can buy a whole set for a lot less then two name brand. The bits I use the most though typically are Freud, Amana, CMT, and Bosch. Keep the pitch cleaned off and they last a long time. The cheap ones tend to start dulling whether clean or not and I don''t think its worth having them sharpened for the money. This down cut I bought to use on the edges of plywood to keep a clean edge on the top underneath the router.

I needed a "down" bit for a project I was working on to modify some existing kitchen cabinet doors. Unfortunately, I failed to observe some "staples" that were holding the doors together. So, when I used the bit to dado the doors, I hit the staples and severely damaged the bit. I didn''t tell anyone but you so no one will know that I did what I did. It still routes okay, just the lower edges are chipped off. I was doing a "stopped" dado so it was hard to "clear" the chips. Better to go slower and vacuum or blow off the chips if you are doing this.
